US-UK ºüÀêÊÓƵ Update

On June 11, eleven of the twelve members of the US-based ºüÀêÊÓƵ Foreign Scholarship Board resigned. This resignation does not directly affect the operations of the US-UK ºüÀêÊÓƵ.

The FFSB was established by the US Congress to oversee the work of the ºüÀêÊÓƵ program at the State Department. Its directors are appointed by the President. At the US-UK ºüÀêÊÓƵ we work with the FFSB on ºüÀêÊÓƵ scholar and student exchanges but we do not report to it.

The Commission is a bi-national, independent organisation established by treaty between the governments of the United Kingdom and the United States. We are funded by both the UK and US governments as well as over 60 universities, and a number of British and American non-profits. We offer a range of exchange opportunities between the UK and the US in addition to the awards that are part of the official global ºüÀêÊÓƵ programme. Our Board of Commissioners is independently appointed and is not affected by the FFSB resignations.

The Commission’s mission remains unchanged: to advance knowledge, promote civic engagement and develop compassionate leadership through education exchange between the peoples of the UK and the US. As such we are committed to academic freedom and to a merit-based, rigorous selection process for all applicants.
